Consultants in Paediatric Dentistry Cardiac CEN

We are a group of Consultants in Paediatric Dentistry who have a specialist interest in managing cardiac patients. We work in hospitals which are children’s cardiac surgical and cardiology centres so treat cardiac patients ensuring dental health is maintained as part of their general care including pre operative dental screenings prior to cardiac surgery. We provide advise and support to clinicians treating this priority group and are involved in both local and national audits. The group initially formed 2014 and has since expanded with representation from all major cardiac centres in the UK. We also have a consultant cardiologist and cardiac nurse consultant as part of the group which has been a great asset.

Our first chair was Michelle Moffat, Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry at the Freeman hospital in Newcastle. She has now handed over to Mina Vaidyanathan who is a Consultant working at Guys and St Thomas NHS foundation trust. We meet twice a year but have met more frequently during the COVID-19 pandemic.
